Deacon goes swimming

Huh, I guess I do still have a blog....sorry gramma :) I have lots of things to talk about but for today, I'll talk about swimming. Deacon has loved his bath time from day one. We thought that he'd also like to swim so I signed him up. A mommy (and daddy) and me class at Kids First Swim school for 6 weeks. His first class was today so off we went. We got to Kids First about 20 minutes early so we hung out in the observation room. Deacon loved looking around at all the people and the other kids. He wasn't so interested in the pool though! I took him back to the locker room and changed him into his little swimmers and his swim trunks (swoon!!) and we went bak out to wait for class to start. Kevin graciously sat this class out and took pictures so we'd have something to show all the grandparents :)

Deacon LOVED the class. He liked the water when we first got in and his legs didn't stop moving the whole time....well maybe they stopped when I dunked him under water and he thought I had drowned him :) But other than that, we had a blast and can't wait for next week. Here are some pictures that Kevin took- enjoy!

Rice Cereal- WIN!

Deacon had his 4 month appointment on the 23rd and we got the go ahead to start him on rice cereal. We tried it on Christmas Eve and he was ok with it, didn't really know what to think. We skipped last night and he had some more tonight. He LOVED it this time. Granted, about an eighth of what was in the bowl ended up in his belly but he loved it just the same :) Here's a short video and some pictures of our adventures in rice cereal. (Please note the exceptional quality of the pictures...best Christmas gift EVER :))

Give me some more!
Nom Nom Nom :-)

Our trip to SC

On December 10th we went down to South Carolina for an early Christmas with the Cassidy/Purhamus clan. This trip held a lot of firsts for Deacon. His first family trip, his first plane ride, his first time meeting his cousins....

I was a little nervous to fly with Deacon because I had never flown with a baby before and wasn't sure how he'd react. We got to the airport with about an hour and a half to spare. We got some snacks and made our way to the gate. Deacon was content to play on daddy's lap for a while and then he got hungry. Unfortunately I have an huge fear of nursing in public.... I tucked us away in the corner and was able to feed him just fine- phew! I stuck Deacon in the moby after he ate and he concked out. He slept the whole way to Charlotte!!! We had to run to catch our connecting flight but made it with a few minutes to spare. Deacon was WIDE awake at this point and ready to eat again. I tried to nurse him in the plane but with the space constrictions and my stage fright it just wasn't happening sooo he got a bottle. After that he was ready to play! So play we did- all the way to Charleston! He was such a good boy the whole trip down!

Mimi and Pop pop were there to pick us up from the airport and we drove about 30 minutes back to their house. I hadn't seen there SC house yet but it was beautiful- I loved the open floor plan! We had a big weekend planned and it started with the Purhamus's coming over for pizza. It was really great to see everyone but unfortunately the cousins weren't able to play together because A&E were getting over being sick. The next day was "Christmas Eve". We went to the Purhamus house and had lasagna and meatballs- YUM!! We hadn't been to their house yet either but Avery was kind enough to give us the grand tour- beautiful!! The next morning was Christmas and the Purhamus's came over for cinnamon buns and presents!! Deacon, Kevin and I got some great swag :) The next night we went to Dukes for BBQ. I had been hearing about Dukes since Kevin visited SC in January. I had high hopes and it didn't disappoint! I had great pulled pork, green beans, yams, hush puppies and cole slaw- YUM!! It was great seeing everyone and being able to visit but the weekend ended quickly and we were headed home on the 14th.

I want to preface this by saying that we are SOO lucky that Deacon is such a good kid or this day could have been HORRIBLE! We were set to leave on the 14th at 9AM. We got to the airport with plenty of time to spare and went to get checked in. They told us that our 9AM flight was cancelled but the one that was originally supposed to leave at 520 was delayed and we could go ahead and get on the one. Ok- no problem. We had a long layover in Charlotte so it didn't really matter when we got there, as long as it was before 1PM. So we waited around for a while to board the 520 flight and that flight was cancelled to. Not just that flight but ALL flights to Charlotte were cancelled. ... awesome! We didn't have a way to get back to BWI where our car and Deacon's car seat was so we were stuck!!! We were directed to go back to the check in desk to try and find a way home. All 100 people that were on the flight were directed to do the same so we waited in line for an hour, weighing our options. If we wanted to fly out that day, we would have to fly into Reagan National. We booked that flight to leave a 130PM and hoped that Jason could pick us up with Matthias's car seat. Kevin called Jason and he agreed to come and get us (LIFE SAVER!!! ) so all we could do now is wait. And wait. And wait. So we waited around and then heard that the flight to Reagan was delayed...ARE YOU KIDDING ME???? Luckily it was only an hour delay and we were on the plane and ready to go at about 245. The flight was quick and Deacon slept the whole time- again :) When we got to DC we had to sit on the plane for a half an hour for some reason- boo!! Jason was there to pick us up (yay!!!) and drive us back to BWI. By the time we got home it was 8PM and our day had started at the Charleston airport at 7AM- whew- WHAT A DAY!!! We were so glad to be home!

Deacon started doing some really cool things while we were in SC. He is now sitting up, unassisted for a good length of time and he started to scream :) Here are some pictures from our trip!

kneebouncers.com

I've got a million blog posts swirling around in my head but no time to write them! For now I'll post a video. I found this awesome website called kneebouncers.com. You open the website and click on one of the "stories" and let your kid go to town. The story reacts to the keys that the child presses. Deacon LOVED it!

Deacon's first snow!

We'll, Deacon experienced his first snow today (Dec 5th). Frankly, I think Kevin and I were WAY more excited then he was! Here are some pictures of our experience. The picture of Deacon in his slippers was after we came back in- he needed to warm up his feet :) Enjoy!

I'm PREGNANT!!!!

....is what I said to Kevin one year ago tomorrow (heheh). Actually, this is how the conversation went:

Setting- Our bedroom, December 1st, 5AM

I get out of bed to get ready for work and decided to pee on a stick.... it's what I did at the time :) So I pee, put the stick down on the counter and go about my business. I get ready to get in the shower and glance over at the pregnancy test..... ::faint:: it's positive.... I can't believe it...I pick it up and start shaking, run out of the bathroom and tell Kevin "I'm pregnant!!!!!!"

"Turn the light off- I can't see" says Kevin..... for serious? I just give you life altering news and you tell me the light is too bright??? Needless to say I don't turn off the light, I just shove the test in his face (cause I'm nice like that :) ) and tell him again that I'm pregnant.... hugging and excitement ensues and 9 months later we were blessed with the most wonderful baby in the world!

I can't believe how much he's changed- from a little speck on the ultrasound screen to this smiling, laughing, babbling little person we see today...we are so lucky!

My Life

Kevin writing again.... I love my life, in no small part because I have a beautiful wife that gave me a sweet, charming, handsome son. I look at him and see his mother, a warm smile, wily personality, and someone that loves me unconditionally. I feel thankful that when I wake up, I get to roll over and look at Brittney, and then wander into Deacon's room wake him and change his diaper. Despite waking him he is never short on smiles for me. We have a routine, I sing to him, he smiles and coos at me while I get him in a clean diaper. Then it's off to mommy to eat. I could not now imagine my life and morning routine absent Britt and Deacon. Finding my other half in Brittney and then having Deacon has completed me. I wish for everyone that they find/have the happiness and feeling of completeness I have. Life is certainly good.
