Gymboree and Grantie

The picture isn't related to the post, I just think it's a funny one of Kaia :)

Deacon and I went to a mommy and me class this morning at Gymboree. It was really fun and Deacon seemed to enjoy himself. We sang, danced, looked in the mirror during tummy time and played with scarves, which he really liked! There were two other babies there, one 11 weeks and one 5 months- Deacon was the same size as the 11 week old- can't wait to see how big he'll be in another 5 weeks! It was nice to get out of the house and do something different. I think we are going to continue to go once a week- next time I'll take pictures!

Deacon also met his Great Aunt Holly who dad has dubbed "Grantie". He was pretty fussy at first but then calmed down and gave her lots of coos and smiles...I think she was pretty smitten!

We went to the Microwbrew festival in Union Mills this past weekend. The weather sort of sucked but we had an awesome time! Some great beer, good food and Deacon was great, sleeping in his moby the whole time!

Deacon is enjoying tummy time more and has better control of his head everyday. He looks like he REALLY wants to roll over again so hopefully we'll be able to catch that on video when he does. He has also found his hands (again?) and is perfectly content gumming those up in place of his pops.

On a non-baby related note, I started a "diet" (as diet as you can get when your nursing...like not eating a box of oreo cakesters in a weekend :)) on Monday and started the 30 day shred today. Let's hope these efforts yield some good results!!!

Undone...

So we ditched the swaddle last night. Deacon had been kind of fighting being swaddled for a while so we decided to just put him in his pj's and a sleep sack.... He LOVED it! He stretched all the way out, arms over his head and slept for a good 5 hours before waking up to eat then going right back to sleep. Victory!!!

Backne...

Deacon's got backne....and he's got it BAD! Poor kid- acne on his face, chest, back, a little on his arms...he's still the most handsome baby I know but you've got to feel for him :) He had his one month check up on Tuesday and the doctor wasn't concerned. He said it would clear up on it's own after a while. Other news from the appointment- we've got a chunker on our hands!!! 11lbs 1oz and 22.25 inches!!! Growing like a weed! It makes me feel good that I'm able to provide the nourishment he needs to fatten him up so well! He had a Hep B vaccine and he only cried (ok SCREAMED) briefly when the nurse injected the vaccine. I just scooped him up after it was over and snuggled him for a bit and he was fine. I was fine too! Didn't even cry! Next month he gets something crazy like 6 shots so I'm sure it'll be a different story.

Yesterday Deacon and I drove down to see Kevin at his work picnic and show him off to all Kevin's co-workers. Even in the almost 90 degree weather Deacon was a champ just sitting in his car seat looking at everyone. Everyone loved him and they all thought he looks like Kevin!

Oh I almost forgot- we are out of newborn diapers and into size 1...*tear* he's growing so quickly :) He's almost also exclusively in 0-3 month duds. We can still get him into some NB outfits but not much!

This weekend we are going to a Microbrew Festival with Dave and Christina. It's going to be nice and cool so I'm thinking of strapping Deacon into the moby and carrying him around...I'm sure there will be a post and pics to follow!

Dexterity

Hello all, I am Kevin, fortunate husband of Brittney, sometimes guest writer so to speak on Deacon's blog. I've seen Deacon do some pretty amazing things already, and he has only been around for one month. Bear in mind, the amazement I speak of typically can not be appreciated by someone who has yet to become a parent, but each day usually brings on something exciting. From him learning to smile, grab a finger, coo and play with his tongue, yesterday's feat was something special.

Brittney and I decided to take Deacon on a car ride, he often likes to roll with his parents while jamming to music as he falls asleep. Yesterday would be no different, except what occurred prior to departing from the house. Deacon was sitting in his car seat and he has two rattles, a duck and a frog, that Aunt Mary got him, both of which hang from the carrier arm of his car seat. These have been there since coming home from the hospital. He has always seemed interested in them, but yesterday he slapped one of the rattles like a boxer throwing a stiff jab. The sheer excitement of him realizing he could do this was evident all over his face with a huge smile. Out went a second jab, connecting with the rattle. Deacon was quite pleased with himself, as were Brittney and I. A boy that has only been on this earth for one month now knows how to stick a jab out and connect to his rattle. Major accomplishment Deacon, mommy and daddy are proud. Money Mayweather doesn't have anything on you.

1 month old....WOW- time flies!

Deacon is a month old today...I can't believe it! It seems like yesterday that we brought him home from the hospital yet I can't imagine my life without him. He is amazing to watch everyday, growing bigger and bigger, figuring things out- I love it! He's recently found his tongue and plays with that all the time. He's starting to smile in response to you and coos and babbles after he's eaten. He's also got a HORRIBLE temper around eating time and if you don't feed him fast enough he's not a happy little guy! Deacon loves to watch sports center with Kevin and loves loves loves to look outside. He's always up for a car ride and never turns down a walk. It's amazing at one month old that he has already developed such a personality!

Being the amazing child that he is (ok maybe I'm a little biased) he rolled over last week. He was doing tummy time on his play mat and rolled from his belly to his back. He didn't seem fazed by it at all and continued on about his business. Of course Kevin and I went on and on about how great he was and what a big boy he was but he didn't really care and it seems to be a one time deal for now :)

Deacon slept in his crib for the first time last night. He had been sleeping in his pack and play in our room and we (Kevin :) ) decided it was time to transition him into his big bed. He fell asleep in the living room and we took him upstairs and I swaddled him and put him in the crib. Then I lost it... He looked so tiny in that huge crib and I was sure that he was going to wake up and not know where he was and be scared to death. Not so much :) He slept like a champ, waking once to eat and going right back in his crib. Much more traumatic for me than him!

His one month appointment is Tuesday and I can't wait to see how much he's grown. He's a chunker so I wouldn't be surprised if he weighed 12lbs :) Only one shot at this appointment so hopefully I can hold it together....

Kevin's back at work tomorrow so it's me and the boy on our own...should be fun but we'll miss time with daddy!
